I came across this great link about the new perpendicular hard drives and the technology behind them. Hitachi came out with a hilarious, but still informative flash movie showing what it is and how it works.
I’ve been messing around with the DD-WRT firmware for the past week and every time I have a question I get absolutely no support. Despite the fact they have IRC listed for instant support, and ~60 people online… every single one is idle. Even if someone is talking and I ask a question, still no response. They’re also not n00b questions, most of them are intelligent, ligitimate questions that answers in the documentation and on the forums is sparse about. Apparently we’re all just supposed to “know.” I feel like I’m in a room with a bunch of slashdot whores.
Anyway, DD-WRT is great if you want to turn your $60 Linksys into a $600 router. I just need to figure out a few complicated things (vlans, wds, vpn) and I should be good.
Kim drug me to the Faith Hill / Tim McGraw concert last night at the Giant Center. I’m not a big fan of country and the show was mostly boring for me, but there was one jackass that gave me a good laugh.
The guy was sitting in the row in front of us and had already had a few beers. He got up to go to the bathroom with his buddy and when they came back, he came up to our row because there were less people to walk past. Unfortunately I made a comment to Kim about him cutting through our row when he should have just followed his buddy and I missed the great fall.
Apparently in his drunken state, he missed his seat while climbing over and tumbled down about two more rows, face first. I looked over and saw people standing up and gawking and Kim and I both realized the idiot fell while climbing back to his seat. Most of us around got a good laugh and he didn’t move for the rest of the concert.
That was about the highlight of the show for me and it just goes to show… don’t climb over seats in an arena or stadium while drunk.
Someone, please tell me what is wrong with this picture.
“U.S.A. – Espanol” is not a location!
I don’t care if you want to speak your native language, but for God’s sake, learn to speak english! It
is was the language of the nation.
Large corporations trying to cater to them are the real problem. If we didn’t cater to them and make everything bi-lingual, they would have a reason to learn english. Currently in our society, they have absolutly no reason to learn english because we have made it so they can live and speak spanish 100% of the time.
I just ordered my MacBook Pro this morning. Thanks to Paypal for the cash back when using their debit card. I paid $59 for FedEx Priority shipping which will have it delivered by 10:30AM the next business day. I got $43 cash back from Paypal so I ended up paying $16 for priority shipping and I’ll have it first thing Monday.
I decided to buy it from MacMall because they were $5 cheaper with an extra 1GB of RAM. If ordered from Apple, it would have cost $300 more for the extra 1GB of RAM. I could have had free shipping if I ordered directly from Apple, but $16 for overnight is better than waiting 5-7 days for them to ship it plus another 5-7 days for it to arrive… and on top of that I saved $305.
I have a feeling that Monday is going to be a wonderful day in the neighborhood!
I don’t even remember how I came across this, but I saw it come up in my search results on Google and had to click on it. The Australian Government has compiled a database of all the public toilets in the country. You can browse, find toilets in your area, or even plan a trip! Just for kicks I found a map of Australia on Google and threw in two town names just to see what it’d do.
I’ve had a small breakout of spam recently on my site. I’m running Spam Karma 2, Bad Behavior, and Akismet and they still come through. Because of this and the context of the message, I’m almost convinced that the spammers are living people and not a machine.
The latest message I received was on my post about the 3 elderly people getting lost in Miami.
“WOW ! Great experience the three must ve had.
Now i actually cant resist mocking. ):
The other things I note about these comments are that the email address is always in the format email@example.com In this case, his name was Thomas and his email was Thomas_14@gmail.com. Ironically, the sites they link to are all running wordpress. They have 1 keyword, about 4-5 articles relating to that keyword and tons of adsense ads. In this case, the site was hotvocationals dot com and the keyword was vocational. I have also seen a site for “cats” as well as a few others. All the sites run the same theme and look exactly alike.
After running a whois on the domain, the information is protected… no big supprise. The sites are hosted on a server in Virginia, and 77 other sites resolve to that IP. All 77 look exactly the same with a different keyword. I’m not quite sure what is going on here, but it seems like a crazy scheme to me.
Lately, talking tends to either get people in trouble for fined… apparently you can also get fined for not talking.
It would appear that in the grand money making scheme of the NBA, you are obliged to talk to the media. Shaquille O’Neal found out the hard way that they actually enforce this rule. Following Sunday’s game against the Mavricks Shaq failed to make himself available to the media. This morning Shaq received a $10,000 fine and Miami received a $25,000 fine from the NBA.
Three elderly people from New York got lost in Miami… and drove around for three days. They were visiting a friend and left for their hotel 8 miles away. They got lost and kept driving around for three days! They were found in a parking lot of a gas station after they had eventually given up. They never asked for directions and the elderly man in the car never knew they were lost!
Seriously… for the safety of everyone else… revoke those licenses immediately!

Once again I’ve been shafted by Microsoft. I signed up for a free USB key and was told they ran out… seriously, you know how many you have… stop letting people sign up once you hit that limit…
Now they’ve made Vista Beta 2 public and closed the downloads off because too many people want it… yet you can still sign up and get a product key and link to the site.
I’m hoping its the same build they released in the MSDN preview two weeks ago because I have both x86 and x64 versions of that. Hopefully that means I can use the ISOs I already have, and the legitimate key I now possess will work and I can stop using the one I found online.
Thanks again Microsoft for getting peoples hopes up only to crush them.
Thank you for your interest in Windows Vista Beta 2.
