Mailman Stops Working in Plesk 9

January 12th, 2010

I just noticed that Mailman stopped working about 6 weeks ago. I have a (dv) server at MediaTemple and it runs Plesk 9.x. This has been an issue for a while now, where it randomly stops working. If you have the same issues with Mailman under Plesk, here’s a fix for you. Run the following command:

$ /usr/lib/plesk-9.0/mailman_conf_init  /usr/lib/mailman/Mailman/mm_cfg.py  qmail

This will force a reconfiguration of Mailman for qmail. After that, restart qmail and Mailman

$ service restart qmail
$ service restart mailman

Gmail Undo Send Is Only For Ninjas

March 26th, 2009

Seriously? 5 seconds?

Gmail introduced a new feature last week called Undo Send. Once enabled, it holds your message for 5 seconds once you hit send and gives you the option to undo. While this may be good for the occasional time you hit send before your message was complete, its not good enough for those nastygrams you might accidentally send out.

Email is meant to be fast, but a 15 sec delay is hardly noticeable. It gives you enough time to process what you just send, say “Oh Sh*t” and hit undo. Otherwise, you have to be a ninja to do all that in 5 seconds.

Gmail team: Why not make the delay 15 seconds? Not all of us are as skillful as you.

What’s the Best IMAP client for OS X?

February 1st, 2009

I’ve been back and forth with Mail Clients on my Macbook Pro over the past few years and was wondering what everybody thought the best IMAP email client was?

I used Mail.app for a while, but started having connection issues. Messages failed to be sent even though Mail.app reported they were sent. Thunderbird gets flakey on and off. Entourage seems like overkill because of the calendar and address features I don’t need. I’m currently using Thunderbird but its not programmed native to OS X so it runs slower than it should. It’s also been hanging occasionally. It does, however, send messages which of course is a vital feature.

I have about 3 IMAP addresses on one mail server (different domains) and 2 Gmail accounts. All are used for various purposes and I’d rather not combine them.

So, what client are you using for IMAP connections on OS X?
